To Market, To Market

Aug 6, 2013

The Anchorage Downtown Market is a place I have been wanting to go to the whole summer. The husband and all his hours of working and shenanigans has limited our opportunities to go. But last weekend the stars aligned and we made it happen. I love this kind of stuff, outdoor markets, antique shops, one of a kind anything is right up my alley. I have heard that this market is all Alaskan all the way baby! It totally was...well the parts we were able to see. It never fails that when the parents or mommy more specifically wants to go somewhere it ends in a disaster. No matter how much I prepared to take all the kiddos out, they all had other ideas. Avalon who is a notorious sleeper when we leave the house decided that she needed no shut eye and more nursing time the second we started pushing the stroller. So I headed back to the car to fill her up while the boys headed to the market. When we met back up the husband found some fudge (to keep the kids occupied) and a very large cappuccino for himself.
We were able to walk up one row of vendors, which was like the calm before the storm. I was particularly impressed with the array of fur hats! I totally think I need one of those, maybe minus the fur? Would it be totally insulting to ask the man for some faux fur? Anyhoo Ace took a liking to all things dead animal related and would ask "mama what amminal was this?" or my personal fav "whoa mama that a lot of doggie tails".

After watching the guy make balloon animals for what felt like forever we decided to get some food. Ace wanted a hot dog or reindeer sausage here in Alaska. I was dying to try a salmon quesadilla which did not happen. Ace decided that the reindeer dog was taking much too long and he threw a fit. Like a fit that could trump all fits in his 3 year life span. I did not even know who my child was at this moment, I was waiting for his head to spin around. We could not calm him down for the life of us. So I called it quits, time to go home, Ace's tantrum triggered Pierce's tantrum which woke up sleeping beauty Avalon. So we booked it! As we were trying to make our way to the car me and my accident prone self fell off the curb, tripped, looked like an idiot, or all of the above. But totally rolled my ankle to the point of instant nausea! I tried to play the tough guy routine and just walk it off, all while the husband was saying "really, how does that even happen"? But that thing was so swollen we could barely get my shoe off in the car. Ace's tantrum continued for most of the ride home which made me want to melon ball my eyes out.
Yes I need a pedicure ASAP
We got home and put all the kids down for a nap so I could sit and ice my ankle, while the husband repeatedly told me he has no idea how I have made it 26 years of my life without wearing a helmet. Mom, if you are reading this could you please enlighten us?

Since the summer is coming to a very quick end up here in the tundra I only have a few more weekends to fulfill my outdoor market dream. But I am planning a solo trip! Ya hear that kids!! SOLO as in you stay home so mom can concentrate on keeping one foot in front of the other.

    1. The picture does not do that hat justice, it had a tail!!! I mean I was wearing an animal on my head...the whole body. But I would love a fake fur hat for the winters up here.

    1. I know, I am on the hut for a fax fur one. But that might be hard to find in Alaska. We lived in Arizona for 2 years and I loved it. I miss the heat so much.
