A solo mom day in Anchorage

Mar 2, 2014

A miracle happened yesterday, and I was granted a few hours to myself! This rarely happens, and even when opportunities present themselves I seldom take them. What can I say? I have a hard time detaching myself from my family. But yesterday Ace and Pierce were having a lazy day, and Avalon was in a baby euphoric kind of mood, so the husband said..."go...go before they catch on to you leaving without them".

When you get a day like this as a mom you are filled with so many decisions. What should I do? Where should I go? Where have I been dying to go? Do I need to get anything waxed? Should I mix business and pleasure and get some errands done? For me the questions are always answered with....shopping!

Here are my favorite and highly recommended places to shop in Anchorage should a mama find herself alone!

First up:

-grab yourself a thai tea or coffee from Rush off Northern Lights. I have yet to be disappointed with this place!

-Then head over to Second Run, they are a consignment/ upscale resale store. I can tell you that they have such a well curated selection of clothing, handbags, and shoes. I come here solely to drool over the Burberry and Givenchy handbag selection. I scored the most amazing handbag from here a few months ago that was new with tags but for a little more than half the original price!

-After leaving here just walk right next door to the cutest boutique called Blush. This shop is one of my favorites, they carry some great brands like, Splendid, BCBG, Free People, Ella Moss, LA Made...the list goes on. The girls here are always friendly, and for my military ladies they do offer a discount!

-After a thorough clothing and accessories overload, I usually head for Ozarks Antqiues off of Old Seward Hwy. Mama's if you don't have a lot of time...you might want to start here! Two stories of amazing antique goodness! This store gets me in trouble every.single.time. I text the husband pictures like "don't you think we need this in the living room? (insert pictures of gigantic wooden wall clock) or "ok seriously I am not leaving here without...." (insert picture of gray tufted chair). His response is always "sure, get it, get it all and then explain to our children why they won't be eating for the next month". Damn it!

-To stay in good with my people back at casa del crazy I try and make time for a stop at Alaska Wild Berry to pick up some truffles and chocolate covered pretzels, oh the horror that would erupt if I came home empty handed!!

I pack a lot in just a couple hours! As a milking cow mama to one, I can't stay away too long. And who doesn't want to get home to be greeted like a superhero the second they walk through the door? Now I know how Chris feels every time he comes home from work. Hands down the best thing ever to be tackled to the ground by three little minions!

So do tell, what do you do for a day off?

  2. Love Ozarks! I didn't discover it until the end of our three years there, which is probably for the best. Trouble is right!

  8. Truly a miracle!! My monthly pedicure is just about as close as I get to that. Man.. One day a chai latte from Starbucks and a nice slow stroll around Target would be glorious!

  14. haha I agree that the best part of the day off is sometimes the getting home to the craziness afterwards! There is such an appreciation for the little kiddos that only comes out when you've been gone for a few hours. It's magical. Glad to have found you through Jessica's linkup :) ~Jenna // A Mama Collective
