Me vs Mother Nature

Mar 12, 2014

So what has been going on around here this week? Not that anyone asked me that, but I figure I should just tell anyway right? I mean thats why I have a blog, to tell people things that they probably don't want to know.

I guess all my wishing away of winter and dreaming of spring really pissed off the mother of all mothers. Mother Nature, because she dealt us a healthy...well unhealthy dose of germs! Pierce and Ace have been battling some ungodly cough the last week, but it wasn't until it reached Avalon that the gloves came off. The last 72 hours in this house have been nothing short of a Saw movie. We are all stuck in a house with no where to go. There are fits of crying rage, a sickness recking havoc on all who enter....if I was chained to the wall I would most definitely take my leg off to get out of here (well if I didn't have kids to care for). I sent the husband a text the other day saying "I would almost rather play in freeway traffic than wipe another nose".

There has been steaming shower sessions to drain the sickness from their pores. Humidifiers filled with essential oils to ward off coughing fits. Vicks rubbing, vicks rubbing, vicks rubbing. I am one step away from hanging garlic around their necks because surely vampires are the next logical symptom in this plague!

And Avalon....my dear sweet Avalon has been replaced with a snot filled beast of a baby. She has to be held 100% of the day. Never to be put down, even though for a split second she thinks she wants to walk around only to freak out during her final decent. She has turned the dramatics way up on this one! She can't nurse because she can't breathe, but she wants to nurse so I try, over and over and over!  Not going to work , but she tries. And in her rage against the milk machine she attempts to rip my areola clean off! Lets sprinkle salt on this wound shall we? She is also teething, two shiny new white daggers appeared in her mouth as well. So now the thought of breastfeeding her reminds me of Shark Week.
There has been lots of movie watching! Just long enough for me to brush my teeth before anyone realizes I left the room. There has been very little sleeping day or night.
Lots of destroying the house, because at this point who-cares! That is a spaceship pictured up above. Ace was convinced that he could "live in der a long long long time until Adalon is done fweaking out". In that case Houston make room for one more!!
And when all else fails pots and pans are my best friend! All of them. Just take all of them out.

The husband came home yesterday in the mid afternoon time frame to grab some gear, and said "what the hell happened to the house?" followed by "what is all over your pants?" SNOT ITS FREAKING SNOT!!!!!!

Even after that I thought I would make the man some dinner. What should have taken 15 minutes to prepare and get in the oven turned in 45 minutes. It took me 45 (!!!) minutes to chop two sweet potatoes with one hand! If you are asking why? Well Avalon wouldn't let me put her down, and I had already committed to this dinner, chicken was in the oven. And putting Avalon down would induce a snot filled rager, complete with saliva choking, and hair pulling. I couldn't deal.....

So Mother Nature....from one mom to another...I'm sorry I love winter. Totally love it. Now come pick up your germs!

*rant over

  7. As much as I would hate to add another two to the mix, I kind of wish we were together in this. John Paul sounds like Avalon's evil twin right now, minus the nursing, thank the Lord. And, Carter is coming down with it, too. I'm losing my mind and it's just two of mine. Bless you!

  12. Feel better B family! Adri & Avalon are in the same boat right now. She's to the point where I think she might need an exorcism.
Teeth are usually where my nursing adventures end. After it happens once, I'm scared to risk the chance of it happening again. Those little things are razor sharp!
