Back in the saddle

Mar 30, 2015

There is nothing I love more than a good hike! Former moving to Alaska Kelsey would laugh at that statement. But since living here I have truly fallen in love with hiking. Okay, maybe I should slow down a bit and say I love an easy hike....

This weekend provided the perfect opportunity to get out of the house. We take our role as tour guides very seriously and make it a point to drag my mom on all our favorite hikes while she is visiting. We really like to make her appreciate the heat in Las Vegas, because the lady gets c-o-l-d up here in Alaska. But how can you not love to get out and enjoy this view? Plus the kids can just run around with mild supervision and we can still call it parenting. I will admit that I am one of those parents that hoards their newborn inside because I am a germaphobe. Oh judge and judge hard folks! Chris even said I have become soooo much more relaxed about taking them out of the house as each kid was born (if this is relaxed, just imagine how I was with Ace). I think you have to get out if you have other kids that will burn your house down if you keep them cooped up. But I am totally fine with taking Odette out for some fresh air and let the sun shine down on her pretty little face. Taking her to a public place? Negative ghost rider, I am a werido.
We went to one of our favorite family friendly hiking areas, Eagle River Nature Center, last time we hiked it, it was covered in ice. This time it was muddy, 40 degrees, and perfect for the boys to sit in the stroller.

Odette slept the whole time, which is to be expected. She has quite the sleep pattern going on. Naps for 2-3 hours, eats for 1, back down for 2-3. It's wonderful until she throws me a curve ball and wants to cluster feed at night. But, I am totally cool with it seeing as how I am getting way more sleep with her here than I ever did during my pregnancy. I think while pregnant I averaged three hours a night. Now the five or more that I sneak in, it feels like cheating!
I do have to commend these three with being semi-patient with me as I try and grasp this mama being pulled in four different directions thing. It takes a little longer to get out of the house. To double check that we have everything we need, even if we end up forgetting things. They haven't been getting out as much as they used too, but they seem to be fairing well. Watching them run around and play in the woods made me so happy.
And jumping off the trail to explore new things is one thing I love about taking these guys out. They keep my fun parent status at a close second to dad, which I will take considering he does all the heavy lifting with them. I am just happy to be in a more mobile state, where I can run along side them intead of waddle behind!

Here's to a crazy busy week we have! Go easy on me children!!

  4. That was fast! And I don't think you are a weirdo at all! I freak out about germs around my babies. And I think it's even worse this time around with it being a winter baby. I contemplated putting the big kids in surgical masks. True story. You make parenting look easy peasey. ;)

  5. I'm crazy! I was out in the city with Veronica when she was 4 days old.. LOL I think I slowed it down with each kid though. Mostly because I was lazy and tired and wanted to be left alone. I'm so impressed with all that you're doing as a new mom of 4! Rockstar mama! You **almost** make me want four!
