gettin' it in gingham

May 31, 2017

Currently still trying to pull myself out of the weekend funk. Yesterday was rough! Rough and lazy my friends. My children did not wake up until well after 8:00 am!! Like a dumbass I just sat at the computer and online shopped....looked at a few new beaches to explore....and genuinely just wasted those precious child free moments that I could have been doing many a things

But sometimes after a long weekend, you have to just ease back into things. Or we do. I know you go getters were out and about feeling like a champ. I'll get there, at least by Friday. I really have so many places that I want to explore with the kids, but if we are having an honest mom moment, going alone with four kids is intimidating. Simply because I turn into a helicopter parent when kicking it solo in crowded places. I mean sure, I have done a ton with them on my own, but I hate feeling so overwhelmed that I don't enjoy the outing. This always happen, I get so inside my own head about things, but the alternative of staying in the house is even worse in my book. But now that school is out, more summer activities are popping up so I get excited for the kids to do new things and make new friends.

And a perfect summer outing outfit cannot be complete without gingham right? I love this gingham button down! It is SO lightweight, and can basically be paired with anything and you are good to go.

How was your Tuesday/Monday?

our first beach trip || st.simons island

May 30, 2017

The weekend led us to the beach, and we will never look back. The last time Chris and I were on the beach, Ace was about 9 months old. How crazy is that? Life happens, and life took us to the snow! Alaskan beaches are much different than lower 48 beaches, you know, because you do not wear layers of clothing. Just layers of sunscreen. And I think we much prefer less clothing.
Living in Savannah we knew everyone was probably heading to Tybee Island. Which is definitely on our list of beaches to go to, but for a crazy tourist weekend and our first beach trip as a family of six, we decided to go elsewhere. Our neighbors told us to head south to find less occupied waters, and we are so happy they did! We set the GPS to St. Simons Island.
Less than an hour from our house, and such a cute town with some gorgeous beaches. There are two public beaches that are super family friendly, but when we saw more than our threshold of humans within a close proximity we decided to break the rules and found ourselves on a private beach. Beach rebels without a cause. I mean, we just like to run wild and free and truly I am looking out for the public's well being. We like to party at a loud level.
The kids were absolutely out of their minds stoked with their new surroundings, and thrilled to put all those swimming lessons to go use! They only came out of the water with food bribery, and my death threat parenting tactics to lather them back up with sunscreen.

Pierce of course had us laughing so hard. The boys were collecting shells, finding crabs, and then all of a sudden Pierce comes sprinting out of the water towards us with something in his hands. I looked at Chris and said "what is he bringing us? You look first, I don't want to know". Then Pierce says "GUYS GUYS I CAUGHT A FISH!!!". Sure as shit he has a fish in his hands! He said " I am going to keep him and name him Mel". I said "Pierce you can't keep him, he can't breathe out of the water, you need to go put him back now!". Pierce looked at me so shocked and screamed "OH MY GOODNESS I'M A MURDERER!" He sprints back to the water repeating "I'm sorry little fish, I'm sorry little fish". And the fish lived happily ever after....I think.

Another reason I was so happy that there were no people near us, was Pierce happily announced as loud as he could, "I peed in the water just like the fish in Moana!".

We had a little talk about beach etiquette.
And this girl right here ran in the sand until she crashed on my lap and slept until we got her back home. Safe to say we have been converted.

How was your weekend? I hope fantastic!

Star Print Dresses
I really hope to be seeing some sunshine around these parts this weekend! The rain has just not stopped this week, and we are all going a little crazy in the house. The dogs are most definitely over it, Shameless has gone into a mild depression over it because he hates the rain! Hates it! Caspian runs out there like a gazelle and just hops I guess since he enjoys himself it isn't all bad. But he doesn't enjoy the whole me drying him off process in order to step foot back in the house.

But, I would like to spend the majority of this long weekend outside so sunshine would be most appreciated. I might just pull this wrap dress out for the second weekend in a row. I never thought of myself as a star print kind of gal, but when I saw this dress online I kept coming back to it. I am glad I did because it is so comfy and summery. While we were out last weekend, I got tons of questions and compliments on it.

I couldn't help but pair it with my favorite basket bag, and I am sorry, I know I carry this thing all the time but I just love it. And these sandals from J.Crew are my new go-tos. Chris actually picked them out when we went shopping so all the credit goes to him.

**and this dress has now sold out! Here are some other star print dresses and tops that are super cute. (midi star dress, star mini dress, and I love this printed top!) I will keep you posted if this one gets restocked!

Summer white blouses
Ruffles Blouses
Keeping things kind of short and sweet today, because yesterday was a shit show crazy day! And I think I am still trying to wrap my head around it. All four kids had well check ups, the boys had to get all the necessary paperwork done for school, and the girls had to get shots. The kids were doing amazing, amazing, and trust me I don't think I ever say that about my own children. Even our new pediatrician said "they deserve a treat for being so cooperative and polite". I was having one of those proud mom moments, until the shot round came around. The girls the ones getting the shots did awesome. But the boys lost their minds over who knows what (still trying to figure it out) and the next thing you know four kids are going in different directions. I pick up Odette, throw Pierce under my other arm and get everyone to the car. I probably looked like a psycho, but when my kids are acting like animals I act like an animal trainer.

I thought we might redeem ourselves at swim lessons, because who doesn't love going swimming? But the second the kids dipped their toes in......thunder and lightning and the pool closed down. I'll let you just imagine what happy campers they were from there.

BUT! Today is a new day, and there is always coffee, and then wine if need be. One thing that you can't really go wrong with is a white blouse. I found this one at Anthropologie and just loved the feminine ruffles, and the overall simple silhouette. Paired with some fun accessories and you have a pretty easy summer outfit. Perfect for Memorial Day weekend!

weekend at the waterfront

May 22, 2017

Georgia Queen, Savannah
Oh, it's so hard to see the weekend go! But I guess it just gives us something to look forward to right? And when you are playing tourist in your new city, there are so many weekends in the future to look forward to. Since Chris really hasn't had a chance to explore downtown Savannah, we decided to hangout there.
Waterfront, River Street, Savannah, GA
The kids were excited to get down to the waterfront, and I was excited to go shopping. Being the rookie people that we are, and coming from a smallish town in Georgia, we really weren't anticipating the parking madness that we endured. I mean, parking garages full, lots of parking tickets being given, and then there was just us in our mini van like.....maybe we just grab a coffee and go home? Ha! The kids were promised boats, so we had to deliver.
We started out at the River Street Market, and just kind of walked from there. The kids loved seeing all the different vendors, and basically drinking every different lemonade that was offered. The heat was ON!!! And we were a bunch of sweaty messes. Chris kept saying "I feel like no one else is sweating. What is wrong with us?". Like I said, rookies.
Savannah River Street Market
Besides the sweat shower that I had happening on my person, I could have spent hours outside looking at all the handmade crafts, and eating off all the food trucks. But, after two hours of walking, Ace's face kind of says it all in that picture above. The kids were getting tired and hungry. Which played into my shopping hand perfectly. We grabbed them yet another lemonade and some hot dogs, and headed to some air conditioned stores to seek refuge.....and let mama get her shop on. The girls fell asleep in the stroller, the boys were content hangin with dad, and I was like a kid in a candy store.

Pass me a few more weekend like this!

How was your weekend? What did you do?

Cool and casual
Well hello beautiful! And by beautiful, I mean Friday!! This week wore me out. In a good way I think. As our first official week of summer break we packed it in, and we packed it in good! Every day there was something, maybe multiple things. But I am just loving our new little town with all of its small town charm and activities. Chris said "you guys were non-stop this week, you mom-ed it hard!"

You bet your ass I did, now pass the wine, it's cheat night!!

But in this role of Director of In House some circles I think it is called a stay at home mom, I am not always required to be in anything more than jeans. So I like to switch it up a bit. Throw in some comfy pants, a button up, and well sneakers because lets not get too crazy.
Summer casual
Cute casual outfits
When I was unpacking and putting my closet together, I came across these three neglected pieces (I think I have only worn these pants once) and pulled them to my clothing rack because I knew I wanted to wear this casually cool look. I'm put together, but it is still easy to go from our school tour, to the playground, to Target.

So what are your big plans for the weekend? I can't wait to have Chris home so we can do some more exploring, and I might actually be able to stop and take it all in :)

Have a great Friday!

the one beauty product you need to buy this summer!

May 17, 2017

I always love a good beauty round up, and there are a few products that I definitely want to share with you all, but today I want to focus on one. That's a little easier sometimes right? Rather than shove five things down your virtual throat and you be much would all this cost? Besides this product deserves it's own post.

You all know that I am a freak about soft carries over to my lips as well. I am a huge fan of lip scrubs, this one is a favorite. Followed by my ride or die lip balm. But, during this move my lips were just SO bad. I wasn't drinking enough water, I could barely find my toothbrush, let alone a damn lip scrub. So they got so dry and flaky. Also known as gross.
Beauty Staple- Fresh Lip Treatment Wand
So one night I decided to order this lip treatment wand. Best decision I have made in a long time. This stuff is magic. It is basically a two in one kind of thing. The wand has a little applicator, but this is no ordinary applicator, no no.
Beauty Staple- Fresh Lip Treatment Wand
It has this little buffer/massage/genius tip. Tiny little lip scrubbers to work with the moisturizing balm! I mean! Come on!!

I have been using it non-stop. Seriously, every time I go into my bathroom I stop and do a quick little lip massage. It's amazing. And after the first couple times I used it my lips were hydrated and plump. Bonus is, it can double as a nice gloss for the day. I have already ordered another one because I cannot go without.

You need this

You're welcome.

not your basic white tee

Cute summer t-shirts and jeans
Happiest of Tuesday's my friends. Today is not a special Tuesday, but it feels good to be getting back into our normal swing of things. Although, yesterday was rough. Chris went back to work, and it was the official start to our summer break since Ace can now be considered a big bad second grader (I'm sorry, what?). But my children got the crazy started real early in the morning. Everyone wanted to eat, then everyone wanted to go out and ride bikes, then only two wanted to come back in and eat again, then one let the dogs out.....have I mentioned our new house does not have a fenced backyard? if I'm not herding cats all day as it is. Thankfully our yard is very big and surrounded by trees, but I don't think our neighbors appreciate a large galloping pony. But you know us...we like to fly our crazy flag nice and high!
Wrapped white tee
Levi's 501 jeans
tee: zara (love this one and this one) // jeans: levi's // shoes: zara // sunglasses: ray-ban

Moving on. I have been wearing these jeans non stop lately. I am not sure there is a better fit of denim than the classic 501's. A little higher waist, with a tapered leg. But relaxed and comfy. I paired them with this cute summer tee. I love the surprise element of this shirt. I put it on and just went out of the house with the fam, and when we got out Chris said "Wow! I wasn't expecting the back to look like that. Did you pay less since your missing fabric?" The man just has so many jokes.
Summer tee and jeans
It's beginning to feel a lot like summer attire it is. Although shorts may be hard to come by for me because my legs are currently covered in about 20 mosquito bites. Riddle me this. We go on a family walk, I come home eaten alive, the rest of the family....nothin. Oh and we killed a snake on the back patio last night. Are we seeing a trend here? Or maybe we are cursed.

Who knows. Happy Tuesday.

Mom Style Blogs
Whew! What a weekend. The celebrating felt like it may never come to an end. Particularly in the food department. I may have gone a little overboard in my indulgences because I fell asleep on the couch much before any child's bedtime last night. The sign of a heavy amount of carbs right? But in between Avalon's birthday and Mother's Day, I turned 30.

In many ways I have felt 30 for a while now. I think it might be the four kids, ten years of marriage, and ten moves in my twenties thing. But who knows. I am actually very excited about 30. If you know me in real life then you know that I don't give a damn about aging. I don't care about the wrinkles on my forehead...although the bangs may help a bit. The stretch marks on my stomach. The varicose veins on my left ankle. It all just doesn't bother me. I feel like I earned them all in my twenties. Like little badges of honor.
Mom Style Blogs
I have always been the kind of person that has the attitude of let's keep it moving. I tend to not care about a lot of things. Which is a blessing and a curse. I am very self aware and confident. Not in a conceited way, just in a, I know who I am kind of way. I know that my dry humor and over use of the F word is not for everyone. I am okay with that. I know that my style of mothering is not for the faint of heart, and I am fine with other moms who judge it. I know that my boldness and honesty in a friendship is an acquired taste.

But if there is one thing my twenties taught me, it is quality over quantity. I don't have time for a lot of friends. But I make time for the friends who understand that. The same goes with family. As sad as it is, I don't have time to worry about the people that don't want to be apart of me and my family's life. Is it sad? Of course. But you have to keep it moving. My kids don't care about any of that, they only care about the six breakfasts that they are going to ask for in the morning.

I feel like your twenties are your learning curve years, a time filled with sink or swim moments. Or at least the last ten years of my life have been that way. I changed so much in my twenties, and learned so much as well.
Although, one thing that I would love to learn is how to keep a plant alive. Because somehow I can keep these four alive, but a plant can't survive a week in my house. So....I hope 30 brings about my green thumb! And maybe a few more vacations.

May 12, 2017

It seems like birthdays are just happening at lightening speed around here. And I don't like, I don't like it one bit.....but I do enjoy celebrating these amazing little people of mine. Avalon's birthday this year has brought us full circle. We were living in Georgia when I found out I was pregnant with her, and it truly feels good to be here again celebrating her birthday. The poor girl though. Last year we were on the road driving from Alaska on her birthday, although we did celebrate while we were in Banff. And then this year we are kind of all over the place. The boys will be here (finally) tomorrow night.
But I guess that is the great thing about little kids. They don't have a keen concept of time, so I basically told her she gets a whole birthday weekend. She has requested that we go to Target today to buy some Shopkins, pink roller blades, and a pink bike. I guess she got sick of riding on Pierce's old Cars bike. Pass that one down to Odette? Maybe.
In any event I am sure there will be no shortage of festivities as soon as her brothers arrive. Balloons and cake on repeat!

Happy Birthday my sweet girl! We truly would not know what to do without your enthusiasm for life, your beyond your years sense of humor and sarcasm, and your endless amount of princess twirls throughout the day. We love you so so much!

girls 'round here

May 10, 2017

Hello! Happy Wednesday! I am popping in from operation unpack. Which I have to say is going quite well. As of yesterday I had all 200 and something boxes unpacked, and as I sit here I have just about every room put together besides the boy's room, and a couple things I need Chris' help to hang on the wall. I basically put myself in overdrive and set a goal to have the whole house done by Friday. I mean, done done (this is when my insomnia works to my benefit). Simply because we are split in half this week. Chris and the boys are back in Columbus while Ace finishes school this week, and Pierce gets his cast off (yay!!!!!!). So it is just me and the girls (well, the boy dogs but I mean let's not get too technical) and I figured this will be the closest thing to a break I am going to get, so I have to capitalize on it. And man.....this two kid thing? Kind of amazing. We did some major errand running yesterday, Target, Ulta, Micheal's, a stop for coffee, and the grocery store!! And all I had to bribe them with was a couple dollar spot toys. No tantrums, no fighting, if I wasn't saying things like "no running" "hold my hand or a car will squish you like a bug" "no no we aren't getting any cookies" you would think I was childless.

Chris has basically said the same things on his end.

All that....but I miss my boys so bad! That was also my motivation for the unpacking. The past month has just been chaos with all the back and forth, and our stuff being packed up, that I wanted the boys to come back to a home. Not just the shell of a house they saw last week.

So this weekend we are kicking off summer break, celebrating a birthday or two, and soaking up some family time. I would be lying if I said I wasn't looking forward to a major cheat day...or three? Gotta say goodbye to my 20's with pizza and wine and sushi and tacos, right? Our goal during this move was to keep it whole30.....leave it to us to add insult to injury.

But damn it feels good to sleep in my own bed again!
