our first beach trip || st.simons island

May 30, 2017

The weekend led us to the beach, and we will never look back. The last time Chris and I were on the beach, Ace was about 9 months old. How crazy is that? Life happens, and life took us to the snow! Alaskan beaches are much different than lower 48 beaches, you know, because you do not wear layers of clothing. Just layers of sunscreen. And I think we much prefer less clothing.
Living in Savannah we knew everyone was probably heading to Tybee Island. Which is definitely on our list of beaches to go to, but for a crazy tourist weekend and our first beach trip as a family of six, we decided to go elsewhere. Our neighbors told us to head south to find less occupied waters, and we are so happy they did! We set the GPS to St. Simons Island.
Less than an hour from our house, and such a cute town with some gorgeous beaches. There are two public beaches that are super family friendly, but when we saw more than our threshold of humans within a close proximity we decided to break the rules and found ourselves on a private beach. Beach rebels without a cause. I mean, we just like to run wild and free and truly I am looking out for the public's well being. We like to party at a loud level.
The kids were absolutely out of their minds stoked with their new surroundings, and thrilled to put all those swimming lessons to go use! They only came out of the water with food bribery, and my death threat parenting tactics to lather them back up with sunscreen.

Pierce of course had us laughing so hard. The boys were collecting shells, finding crabs, and then all of a sudden Pierce comes sprinting out of the water towards us with something in his hands. I looked at Chris and said "what is he bringing us? You look first, I don't want to know". Then Pierce says "GUYS GUYS I CAUGHT A FISH!!!". Sure as shit he has a fish in his hands! He said " I am going to keep him and name him Mel". I said "Pierce you can't keep him, he can't breathe out of the water, you need to go put him back now!". Pierce looked at me so shocked and screamed "OH MY GOODNESS I'M A MURDERER!" He sprints back to the water repeating "I'm sorry little fish, I'm sorry little fish". And the fish lived happily ever after....I think.

Another reason I was so happy that there were no people near us, was Pierce happily announced as loud as he could, "I peed in the water just like the fish in Moana!".

We had a little talk about beach etiquette.
And this girl right here ran in the sand until she crashed on my lap and slept until we got her back home. Safe to say we have been converted.

How was your weekend? I hope fantastic!
