south carolina for the fourth

J.Crew Striped Dress
For the 4th of July we really didn't have any plans other than attending a little barbecue. But when we woke up that morning the kids were begging to go back to the beach. Chris and I were a little surprised since we got home from Jekyll Island pretty late the night before. But who were we to deny them back to back beach days? This is summer, right?

I had to throw that last picture in there because as we were snapping some pictures Ace yelled "MOM ALLIGATOR!!" and then I jumped in the air and yelled a few choice words just for him to say..."just kidding". Even though there were a few alligators under this bridge.

Anyway, I bought this dress awhile ago just holding out until the 4th to wear it (and now it is on major sale!!!). And now I think I will just live in it! I love the lace up detail, and obviously the stripes were a huge selling point. I don't think I have ever had so many people come up and ask me where an item of clothing is from!

After I ate eight hot dogs, and about a pound of queso dip we headed to the beach. We have been wanting to go to Hilton Head Island in South Carolina, and even though this was probably one of the busiest summer days to go, we said eff it! Just like many of the other beaches we have visited, there are plenty of options to plant your umbrella and set up shop. We decided to go to Folly Field Beach. There is very limited parking at this beach access spot, but as we were about to give up the minivan gods were on our side and one pulled out so we could pull right in.

A hop, skip, and a tipped over wagon full of stuff and we were in the water. The beach was packed! I am talking like combat beaching. You know us and other people, we avoid them like the plague. So we walked and walked, and the kids whined and whined. Then we found a nice big open spot.

The beach was so nice! And even the short drive through Hilton Head was beautiful. Chris has already made plans to go golf there. And I have made plans in my head for a little staycation there as well, maybe by myself, who knows!

Even though going to the beach with kids is just non-stop movement. I love watching these little people running around in and out of the water, laughing, screaming, and just having so much fun. I am also happy that all these swimming lessons have been paying off. The boys are fearless out there, and I am just so thankful that Chris is like my oldest fifth child and is right out there diving into waves with them. I have to all but threaten them with their lives to come out of the water so I can reapply sunscreen, and force feed them!

And the very best part is there is NO fighting!! So beach days forever...for-ever ever!

  5. What did you think of the sizing on this dress? TTS or did you wish you had sized down? Or up? Everyone raves about it, I just can't decide on the sizing...

    1. I felt the same way, I didn't know what to order. I ended up ordering a xs and a small, and kept the small. The xs was just too tight in the arms, but I loved the fit otherwise. The small just felt better. So maybe go with your normal size :)
